Lynchburg, VA –
Described as a “life-long learner” and an “edutainer” (education plus entertainment), Mrs. Kim Beuerle received a big honor this morning. Today Lynchburg City School administrators announced proudly that Mrs. Beuerle is the 2008-2009 Teacher of the Year. They paid a surprise visit to her classroom tell her the good news.
Mrs. Beuerle teaches second grade at R.S. Payne Elementary School and has been at Payne for 11 years.
Mrs. Beuerle is described as a self-less leader by her peers and principal, John Blakely. Mr. Blakely goes on to describe her as having the “Midas touch” when it comes to grant writing. But it is her ability to think outside the textbook that makes her a big hit with students. She uses a multimedia approach to her lessons. Thanks to this innovative teaching style, she says her students soak up information like “little sponges”.
She will be recognized at the Lynchburg City School Board Regular Meeting, Tuesday, May 6 at 5:30 p.m. and at the Lynchburg City Schools Staff Appreciation Celebration, Wednesday, May 21 at Lynchburg College.
To select the Lynchburg City Schools Teacher of the Year, the school division uses a nomination procedure whereby school staffs, principals, or school division adminstrators nominate teachers for this honor. The nominated teachers are then interviewed by a team of administrators and past teachers of the year. The team gives special consideration for the following characteristics: experience in the division and the field of teaching, professional development activities, classroom performances, professional organizations and community involvement.
