Organizational Relationships:

The parking lot attendant reports to the principal and/or associate principal.

Performance Responsibilities:

To organize, supervise, and maintain a K-12 program that encourages students to accelerate their learning, take more demanding courses, and achieve at higher levels.

Minimum Requirements:

1. The candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree.
2. The candidate demonstrates the professional and personal characteristics, and has experiences necessary for working effectively with school personnel and members of the community.
3. The candidate has at least three (3) years teaching experience.

Organizational Relationships:

The Instructional Specialist for PETAL reports to the assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction; and to the superintendent. 

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Works with teachers and principals to identify K-12 students with academic potential to achieve at a higher level.
2. Coordinates elementary, secondary, and bridge summer acceleration programs.
3. Coordinates middle school summer accelerated math program for students in grades 6 and 7.
4. Coordinates regular meetings with identified secondary students. Conducts meetings with parents of identified students.
5. Implements an academic mentor program.
6. Maintains contact with community after-school tutorial partnership programs that support SOL and student learning.
7. Coordinates programs that focus on test-taking, time management, and study skills.
8. Work with secondary guidance departments to provide academic counseling and support for selected students enrolling in college prep or career tech classes.
9. Serves as LCS liaison for the STEP with Links program.
10. Facilitates the administration of career interest inventories for secondary student participants
11. Coordinates the administration of the division-wide learning styles assessment inventories.
12. Conducts joint activities/programs with the division’s Career-Technical counselor.
13. Coordinates parent workshops for secondary students on financial assistance for college (including the Virginia pre-paid tuition program).
14. Assists with the college application process.
15. Conducts meetings with parents who have children transitioning to middle or high school acceleration courses.
16. Conducts bi-monthly Key Communicator Advisory Committee meetings.
17. Monitors the progress of identified students for five (5) years beyond high school.
18. Performs other duties as assigned by the assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction; and as assigned by the superintendent.
19. Provides cultural competency training of instructional and non-instructional staff in collaboration with identified central office staff.
20. Works cooperatively with the mathematics supervisor and instructional specialists.

Salary Terms:

The salary range for this position is $36,633 – $65,542, commensurate with experience. This is an 11-month position with full benefits. The start date is Monday, June 16, 2008 for the 2008-09 academic school year.

E.C. Glass and Heritage High Schools

Primary Function:

To organize, administer, and coordinate division, state and federal level student assessments for the high school, and to assist students in understanding their abilities, aptitudes, interests, and interactions with others so that they can make effective decisions about various life choices.

Qualifications:

1. Candidate must possess a master’s degree in guidance counseling.
2. Candidate must have a minimum of two (2) years teaching experience or one year teaching and one year agency work.

Organizational Relationships:

The secondary guidance counselor/assessment specialist reports to the principal, guidance director and director of student services.

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Coordinates the year-round division, state and federal assessment programs for the high school.
2. Serves as a liaison between the school and community as well as serving as the liaison between the school and the division’s assessment and reporting staff.
3. Coordinates the ordering, distribution, return and security of all school testing materials.
4. Plans and implements the school’s testing schedule in accordance with the division’s testing schedule.
5. Supervises and trains school testing examiners and proctors.
6. Works with the instructional technology specialist to disaggregate test data so that it is usable to school staff.
7. Disaggregates as well as analyzes data and prepares reports at the request of central office administrators.
8. Prepares and presents concise and understandable annual summaries of test data to the school principal.
9. Organizes the collection, analysis and presentation of summer school data.
10. Provides in-service to staff based on the school’s instructional needs as well as on the interpretation of test data.
11. Stays abreast of testing and accreditation developments at the local, state and federal levels through current literature and research as well as attendance at division, regional and state assessment meetings, and informs staff members of changes.
12. Keeps abreast of research as it relates to guidance services.
13. Works with instructional departments and personnel within the high school to gather data required for assessment programs and maintains the information in the division and state assessment data bases.
14. Provides for group guidance activities in order to provide information, skill building, opportunities for personal growth and development, orientation, and assistance in decision making.
15. Maintains accurate and up-to-date permanent records as outlined in the most recent edition of “Management of the Student’s S holistic Record in the Public School of Virginia.”
16. Prepares local and state reports pertaining to guidance services and assessments.
17. Engages in research, accountability, and evaluation activities, so that appropriate modifications can be made and new directions set for the guidance program.
18. Uses acceptable and effective oral and written communication with colleagues, community and students.
19. Performs other guidance and counseling responsibilities as needed.
20. Performs other duties as assigned by the principal and the director or student services.

Elementary Site

Primary Function:

To work with principals and teachers to provide an elementary reading/language arts program that assists students in meeting the Standards of Learning.

Qualifications:

1. Candidate must hold a valid certification to meet state requirements with specific endorsement as a reading specialist.
2. Candidate must have a minimum of five (5) years teaching experience in a regular classroom and/or reading at the elementary level.

Organizational Relationship:

The reading specialist reports to the principal.

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Works in cooperation with the individual school staff to develop a comprehensive school plan for the teaching of reading.
2. Provides leadership and guidance to the school staff in matters related to reading instruction to include conducting professional development and implementing division initiatives.
3. Serves as a model for instructional and professional excellence.
4. Provides intervention services to students that are not achieving success through regular classroom instruction.
5. Provides individualized instruction to children that focus on specific skills deficits.
6. Implements frequent progress monitoring to determine the effectiveness of intervention services.
7. Provides diagnostic services for students who have demonstrated a lack of progress with conventional intervention strategies and programs.
8. Provides individualized remediation/tutorial services based upon the diagnostic assessment.
9. Provides tutorial plans and materials to instructional support personnel.
10. Provides leadership in assessing program effectiveness by monitoring individual student achievement.
11. Implements all facets of the school’s Title I program.
12. Assumes other responsibilities as requested by the principal.

SALARY TERMS:

The salary range for this position is $33,303 – $59,584, depending on experience level. This is a 10-month position with full benefits.

E.C. Glass High School

Minimum Requirements:

1. Must possess a Virginia postgraduate professional license with the appropriate administrative endorsement or be eligible for such an endorsement.
2. Must have at least three (3) years of successful public school teaching experience, and three (3) years of administrative experience required.

Organizational Relationships:

The principal reports to the superintendent.

Performance Responsibilities:

The principal’s primary responsibility is to provide leadership for the professional and classified staff at the school in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive educational program and to administer the program in accordance with school board policies and regulations.

Salary Terms:

The salary range for this position is $89,385 – $121,000, plus a full benefits package. This is a twelve-month position.

Department of Facilities and Transportation

Primary Function:

To perform skilled services related to all phases of plumbing and related tasks.

Organizational Relationship:

The Maintenance Craftsman II reports to the Assistant Director of Facilities.

Qualifications:

1. The candidate must be certified as a journeyman or master plumber.
2. The candidate must have knowledge of building maintenance trades.
3. The candidate must have reliable transportation.

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Performs all maintenance tasks assigned as they pertain to plumbing and related equipment.
2. Performs duties in a skilled manner for the trade involved.
3. Keeps abreast of techniques in the specialized trade and propose recommendations.
4. Remains on call and responds appropriately to emergency situations.
5. Instructs and trains maintenance workers, maintenance craftsmen and custodians.
6. Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Facilities.

Salary Terms:

The salary range for this position is $11.41 to $18.13 per hour, but could be higher with previous experience. This position is a 12-month (260-day) position with full benefits and is classified as non-exempt as defined within the Fair Labor Standards Act.
