Partnership between Earth Education at Kum-Ba-Yah and T.C.Miller Elementary School

Plan Description:

This Master Partnership between Earth Education at Kum-Ba-Yah and T.C. Miller School for Innovation is designed to provide academic support for environmental education in and on the school grounds and at Camp Kum-Ba-Yah. This mutual partnership will provide an opportunity for partners to work together to promote positive outdoor classroom learning experiences for students, and teachers.

Major Objectives:

  • To provide direct experiences with nature to enrich and reinforce classroom study of the life sciences and many other curricular subjects.
  • To enhance the understanding of ecological principles through investigation and experiential learning.
  • To participate in innovative programs in environmental education.

Major Activities:

  • Third and fourth grade students will participate in a program in which they learn about habitats and ecosystems through a variety of hands-on outdoor activities as they explore the forest, meadow, and pond at Camp KBY.
  • Fifth grade students will participate in the initial year of the implementation of the “Rangers of the Earth Program” which is designed to give students an understanding of ecological concepts and learn to live more harmoniously with the natural world.
  • The Earth Education Coordinator at Camp KBY will provide referral to resources in environmental education.

Evaluation:

All parties will provide a written evaluation of partnership activities by completing a partnership evaluation form at the end of the school year.

Plan Description:

This Master Partnership between Earth Education at Kum-Ba-Yah and Bedford Hills Elementary School is designed to provide academic and volunteer support for environmental education in and on the school grounds. This mutual partnership will provide an opportunity for partners to work together to promote positive school and community relations. Kum-Ba-Yah will provide expertise in experiential education giving the students and teachers the opportunity to learn about our environment in an outdoor setting.

Major Objectives:

  1. To assist Bedford Hills students in planting gardens in the courtyard area.
  2. To provide direct experiences with nature to enrich and reinforce classroom study of the life sciences and math application.
  3. To enhance ecological principles through investigation and to help identify many organisms in our local ecosystem.
  4. To reinforce classroom instruction and the Standards of Learning objectives in the areas of science and math.
  5. To continue to maintain and use the trail between Bedford Hills School and Camp Kum-Ba-Yah as an outdoor learning tool.

Major Activities:

  1. Kindergarten students would participate in a Pond Walk in the spring to enhance sensory awareness and learn about life cycles.
  2. First grade students participate in an interactive activity about animal adaptations and search for clues that reveal the identity of the different types of animals living the forest at Camp KBY.
  3. Second grade students learn about life cycles and search for their animal babies in a fun matching game, then use the information to find a suitable habitat in which to live.
  4. Third and fourth grade students are led through a variety of hands-on outdoor activities as they explore the forest, meadow, and pond at Camp KBY.
  5. Fifth grade students will participate in a modified program modeled after “Rangers of the Earth Program” where they receive an excellent review of the concepts of communities and energy flow in an ecosystem.
  6. Finally, with funding from the Bedford Hills PTO and with the cooperation of the Earth Education coordinator, Gardens will be planted in the school courtyard that follows a specific grade level theme. This garden planting will be completed over several successive years.

Evaluation:

All parties will provide a written evaluation of partnership activities by completing a partnership evaluation form at the end of the school year.

Partnership between Cici’s Pizza and Dearington Elementary School

This is a one-year Master Partnership between Cici’s Pizza and Dearington Elementary School. The partnership will be renewed annually upon review and mutual consent of both parties.

Plan Description:

This master partnership between Cici’s Pizza and Dearington Elementary School is designed to provide recognition and incentives for students and staff. The partnership will also provide a means of financial support of programs. The Dearington Elementary School community will support Cici’s Pizza in a variety of ways thus establishing a positive relationship among students, parents and staff towards this business partner.

Major Objectives:

  • To recognize and promote appropriate behavior, good attendance, and academic excellence
  • To promote community awareness of Dearington Elementary School’s students, staff, and community
  • To recognize Cici’s commitment to student achievement and success
  • To provide opportunities for Cici’s Pizza and Dearington Elementary School to share resources

Major Activities:

  1. Dearington Elementary School will provide Cici’s Pizza with student artwork and crafts for display at the restaurant (approx 40) sometime in the winter. A prize will be awarded for the best, judged by Cici’s management.
  2. Dearington Elementary School will provide written work (poems, stories, and other prose) for display at the restaurant (approx 40) sometime in the spring. A prize will be awarded for the best, judged by Cici’s management.
  3. Cici’s Pizza will provide free meal passes to students when accompanied by a paying adult for students with good attendance, appropriate behavior, academic excellence, and exceptional citizenship as defined by the school faculty.
  4. Cici’s Pizza will provide free meal passes to students when accompanied by a paying adult for students who achieve academically as identified by the school.
  5. Dearington’s principal and staff will participate in “Principal’s Night,” an opportunity for 10% of the sales receipts of Dearington “family” members to be donated to the school.
  6. Cici’s Pizza will participate in Dearington’s teacher recognition program by donating ten pizzas at the discretion of the principal.
  7. Cici’s Pizza will offer field trips so that students can study specific SOL content in economics and math.
  8. Cici’s Pizza will advertise school events and encourage community support of programs at the school (i.e. grade level plays, open house, book fair, etc.).
  9. Representative(s) from Cici’s Pizza and Dearington Elementary School will serve on the Partnership Planning Committee to plan, monitor, and evaluate all partnership activities.
  10. Cici’s Pizza will offer Dearington Elementary discounted pizzas ($5.00 one topping large) sale for school events or fund raisers to include the end of the year school parties. Cici’s Pizza will deliver for the end of year parties based on a first come first serve basis.
  11. Cici’s Pizza and Dearington Elementary School will promote the partnership in the community and publicize partnership activities through newsletters, press releases, partner visits and other appropriate company, school and school division publications.

Evaluation:

All parties will provide written evaluation of partnership activities by completing a partnership evaluation form at the end of the school year.

Partnership between The Virginia School of the Arts and Dearington Elementary School

VSA Partnership Signing

This is a one-year Master Partnership between Virginia School of the Arts and Dearington Elementary School. The partnership will be renewed annually upon review and mutual consent of both parties.

Plan Description:

This master partnership between The Virginia School of the Arts and Dearington Elementary School is designed to provide exposure and promotion of the art form of dance to the Dearington student body. It will also provide a wider spread interest in the community for dance. The Dearington Elementary School and Virginia School of the Arts will provide support in a variety of ways to each other thus establishing a positive relationship among the students, parents and staff for both schools toward this educational partnership.

Major Objectives:

  • To promote community awareness of dance and movement.
  • To provide opportunities for the student body at Dearington Elementary School to participate in dance.
  • To provide exposure to dance through lecture demonstrations and mini performances.
  • To provide an increased awareness to the student body at Dearington Elementary School regarding the rewards received through hard work and self-discipline.

Major Activities:

  • Virginia School of the Arts will provide two mini performances and/or lecture demonstrations during the school year at Dearington Elementary School.
  • Virginia School of the Arts will provide two dance classes for the fifth graders prior to each performance/lecture. A faculty member and two students from The Virginia School of the Arts will provide instruction. This will take place at Dearington Elementary School.
  • The Fifth graders will have an opportunity to participate in a choreographed dance for the rest of the student body at Dearington Elementary School. This will be done during the scheduled mini performances.
  • Dearington Elementary School students will be encouraged to take dance lessons through Virginia School of the Arts if there is an interest in dance.
  • The students at The Virginia School of the Arts will be invited to special events at Dearington Elementary School so that a positive and open relationship is formed between both student bodies.
  • Virginia School of the Arts will allow the students at Dearington Elementary School to come and see their school for a field trip. They will be exposed to a behind the scenes look at what it is like to be a dance student. They will also learn how much hard work and self-discipline it takes to be a dancer.
  • Representatives from Virginia School of the Performing Arts and Dearington Elementary School will serve on the Partnership Planning Committee to plan, monitor and evaluate all partnership activities.
  • Virginia School of the Arts and Dearington Elementary School will promote the partnership in the community and publicize partnership activities through newsletters and press releases.

Lynchburg Fire Department Fire Station #4 B Shift and The Middle School Learning Center
This is a one-year Master Partnership between the Lynchburg Fire Department Fire Station #4 B Shift and the Middle School Learning Center. The partnership will be renewed annually upon review and mutual consent of all parties.

Plan Description:

This master partnership between the Lynchburg Fire Department – Fire Station # 4 B Shift and the Middle School Learning Center, will work to promote a positive image of the Fire Department by implementing educational programs for students which stress fire safety, first aid and career awareness.

Major Objectives:

  • To encourage a positive image of the fire fighters and the job they perform
  • To promote fire safety strategies and prevention measures to all Middle School Learning Center students, staff, parents and community
  • To foster a mentorship atmosphere between positive adult service-oriented role models and students
  • To promote basic first aid techniques

Major Activities:

  • The Lynchburg Fire Department Fire Station # 4 B Shift will visit the Middle School Learning Center to present various fire safety and first aid programs including: EDITH (Escape Drills in the Home), 911 Program – Making the Right Call, and Learn Not to Burn.
  • Fire Department – Fire Station # 4 B Shift will participate in school scheduled events and activities (schedule permitting).
  • The Lynchburg Fire Department Fire Station # 4 B Shift firefighters will interact with students on a casual, one-on-one basis during lunch, incentive programs, and various special school sponsored activities and events.
  • The Lynchburg Fire Department Fire Station # 4 B Shift will be available to present fire safety and fire prevention programs to school staff and parents.
  • The Lynchburg Fire Department – Fire Station # 4 B Shift will participate in the Career Awareness Day at school by providing a representative to speak to the students on being a member of the fire fighting team.
  • The Lynchburg Fire Department – Fire Station # 4 B Shift will assist with and witness practice fire drills conducted at the beginning of the school year.
  • The Middle School Learning Center will provide student artwork for display at the fire station, birthday cards for fire fighters and EMTs on B Shift.
  • Representatives from the Lynchburg Fire Department – Fire Station # 4 B Shift and the Middle School Learning Center will serve on a partnership planning committee to plan, monitor, and evaluate all partnership activities.
  • The Lynchburg Fire Department – Fire Station # 4 B Shift and the Middle School Learning Center will promote the partnership in the community and publicize partnership activities through school displays/bulletin boards, press releases, partner visits and other appropriate city government and school division publications.

Evaluation:
