Class Overview
At DESI we have the opportunity to integrate art with Social Studies for a hands on approach to learning. We use a projects approach which enables the students to experience the curriculum. Curriculum is developed between the classroom teacher and the art teacher to create an environment where students can learn using various educational approaches. Hands on learning experiences are directly related to curriculum and standards of learning in social studies, math, science, language arts, and technology. Art instruction is delivered in whole class groups, half groups, small groups and sometimes individually, depending upon the needs of the student and the skills being taught. Along with visual arts, social studies, Virginia history and economics are integrated into the program.
