Class Overview
Our first grade class is a heterogeneously grouped mixture of 18 students in the morning for reading, math, and grammer and 24 students in the afternoon for writing, science, and social studies. In first grade it is very important for our students to learn how to read. We work very hard on phonics skills to help our students sound out new words when they are reading and writing. In math, we learn how to count to 100, add, subtract, graph, measure, count money, tell time to the hour and half hour, and study place value. In social studies, we learn about being good citizens, the past, timelines, American symbols, and 5 famous Americans. In science, we learn about the sun, natural resources, plants, animals, force, motion, energy, and matter.Â
