Class Overview
Welcome to Third Grade! I am Mrs. Fox and I am looking forward to a great year with your child!
You and I will work closely together to provide the best education for your child. I will ask for your input and support on projects and activities along with homework and field trips. I can be reached most days from 8:15-8:40 in the morning or by appointment.
There are many opportunities to volunteer in and for the classroom. I look forward to working with you as well as helping your child learn this year.
Reading
Third Grade Reading will be broken down into a balanced literacy block. We will work in depth in the five areas of reading, Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Fluency and Comprehension as well as develop writing skills in writer’s workshop.
Homework will be given each night to apply and practice the skills that were taught that day. Students need to read 15 minutes each night and record the minutes and title on a reading log. AR goals will also be asssigned for students.
Math
This six weeks will focus on fact families, place value, problem solving, adding and subtracting large numbers and rounding. After direction instruction we will break up into groups to work on these skills as well as learn through various math games.
Science
Simple machines are the focus during this six week period. We will learn through scientific investigaton, smart board activities, interactive notebook and hands-on learning. Students will work in groups together to accomplish the learning goal.
