Class Overview
Sandusky’s 8th graders are either enrolled in Principles of Science or Advanced Earth Science.
Advanced Earth Science:
Students enrolled in this course have demonstrated enough knowledge to qualify them to take a high school science course while still attending the middle school. Students who complete this course will be able to earn a high school credit before ever entering the high school doors. This is an excellent opportunity for students who have a special curiosity for the fields of science. This course will explore the Earth, its characteristics, structure, composition, history, dynamics, as well as its role in the universe.
Principles of Science:
Students enrolled in this course will get a taste of new science material as well as a healthy dose of review so that they may gear up for those end of year SOLS! As you may know, the 8th grade standards of learning test in science contains questions from all three years of middle school science. The Principles of Science course integrates the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade SOLS to ensure the success of all students. Your child will study many different concepts throughout the year such as the solar system, cells, plants and animals, physics, chemistry, matter, and energy (just to name a few).
