Rules/ Homework Guidelines

Homework

Homework is designed to reinforce information and skills taught in the classroom.

1.      Homework will be given 2-3 times each week.

2.      Assignments are expected to be written in each student’s Agenda.

3.      Assignments will also be listed on this website.

4.      A student who misses a homework assignment may turn in the assignment prior to the last week of the six weeks for a maximum grade of 70%.

5.      A student who misses an assignment due to an excused absence or other reasonable situation (must be accompanied by a note) may make up the assignment for full credit.

6.      Students missing more than four assignments in a six-week period can expect to have communication made with the parent through either the Agenda or a phone call home.

Discipline

Assertive discipline will be used to maintain order in the classroom.Rules:

1.      Students should be seated and ready to work when the tardy bell rings.

2.      Students are expected to have all materials necessary for the class, including Agendas and any homework assigned.

3.      Students are expected to follow directions the first time given.

4.      Students are to exhibit honesty, respect and responsibility at all times.

Consequences:

1.      Warning

2.      45 seconds after class

3.      Detention

4.      Second detention, plus parental contact

5.      Referral to the principal

6.      Severe Clause (when the problem is so severe that an administrator must handle it immediately)

Rewards:

1.      Praise

2.      Positive notes and calls home

3.      Better grades

4.      Various incentives

Grading Policy

Please be aware that not all assignments are given the same emphasis in developing a student’s average. For example, a test will obviously count more than a homework assignment. The scale for this class is as follows:

Homework or classwork counts one time

Quizzes count twice

Tests count four times

Projects vary: they can count anywhere from 2-8 times, depending on the time and labor involved

This method allows for a fair assessment of the student’s work, even if the number of tests or projects in a six weeks varies. Parents will be notified of their child’s progress at least every three weeks through progress reports and report cards.
