The Virginia Department of Education recognizes Paul Munro Elementary School as a “Title 1 Distinguished School” for the 2009-2010 school year. This designation was given to the school for its ability to maintain full state accreditation under the commonwealth’s Standards of Learning program for two consecutive years, meeting federal benchmarks in reading and mathematics and having average test scores in both subjects at the sixtieth percentile or higher.
One hundred and three schools received this honor. “These schools share a commitment to instruction and accountability that is grounded in the belief that all children can succeed,” State Superintendent of Public Instruction Patricia I. Wright said. Lynchburg City Schools Superintendent Paul McKendrick reiterates that point by saying, “Paul Munro has once again gone above the bar as related to all children continuing to demonstrate outstanding achievement. We commend the staff because attaining this honor means that all children have done well at your school.”
