Two E. C. Glass High School seniors have advanced to finalist standings in the National Merit and National Achievement scholarship programs.
Isaac Alty, who was named a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist in September, is now among roughly 15,000 finalists who can ultimately be chosen for Merit Scholarship awards. Approximately 8,300 finalists will be chosen for a scholarship in the program.
Diamond Pollard is among 13,000 finalists who can be chosen for an Achievement Scholarship. Roughly 800 students will be chosen later this month.
Kiana Cardwell was named a National Achievement Outstanding Participant earlier in the recognition process.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955 with 1.5 million entries each year. In 1964, the National Achievement Scholarship Program was established to provide recognition for outstanding African American high school students, with more than 160,000 students entering the competition each year.
