The Heritage Elementary School Boys' Running Club participated in the Liberty University 5k Trail Race in February at the Liberty University Snow Flex. On a very cold, snowy Saturday morning the boys, outfitted in their Boys' Running Club shirts, braved the weather and the challenging terrain to run incredible times in the race. All the boys (ages 7-9) finished under 55 minutes with the majority of them finishing in just over 30 minutes. They showed perseverance and the "never give up" attitude as they finished strong across the finish line. The coaches, including HES teachers Joel Gibson and Derrick Dews, paced each boy, cheering them on to the finish until all 17 crossed. Other Heritage Elementary staff braved the cold to run the race with the boys. Many of the boys finished in the front of the pack and the general public was amazed by the boys and their performances. The boys were full of pride and a sense of accomplishment at the end of the race and showed great sportsmanship and character as they congratulated each other and cheered each other on.
The HES boys running club is in its second year and has been a positive program at HES.
