E. C. Glass track and field athlete Matthew Zajac became only the third thrower in Virginia history to surpass the 190-foot barrier in the discus over the weekend.
Competing on the biggest stage in Virginia, The Milestat Gala in Richmond, Matthew began the meet by tossing an outdoor personal best in the shot put (55-9.75), winning the meet, and wowing the crowd with a 59-foot sector foul.
On the second day, he completed the sweep of the throws by throwing 190-6 in the discus. This mark improves his school record, ranks him No. 1 in the state. It also makes him the only junior in Virginia to ever throw that far. His series included two other throws over 180 feet.
