The Pioneer Rifles Marksmanship Team nearly swept the competition on the way to winning the Old Dominion Junior Rifle League for the 2012-2013 School Year. These talented students competed against 11 other teams from around the state participate. During the six-match season, with a monthly match during October through March, Heritage placed first five out of six times. They had one second place finish. HHS also took home numerous individual awards during the season.
Additionally, the team placed third in the American Legion "Western" Region Championship and will compete in the state tournament on May 4th in Charlottesville. The last time Heritage won the state championship was in 2000.

In other news, Cadet Lt. Col. Jeremy Huff, the HHS Cadet Battalion Commander, won third place overall when the Heritage High School Leadership Department "Academic Team" competed in the MCJROTC Region 6 Academic Competition. The competition is an academic test covering material from the Leadership Curriculum provided by the U.S. Marine Corps, which forms the basis of the Leadership Courses taught as part of the Marine Corps Junior ROTC Program of Instruction.
Additionally, the Heritage HS MCJROTC Girls Physical Fitness Team placed second in the MCJROTC Region 6 Competition. Miyah Boyd placed second overall as an individual.
