| W. M. Bass Elementary School | Teachers have been integrating Black History activities within instruction.
In addition, on February 17th at 10:00 a.m., the Black and Gold contestants (Alpha Phi Alpha partnership) will be reading to all students attending intersession. |
| Bedford Hills Elementary School | Each classroom selected a local African-American Husky Hero. Students interviewed the selected individuals. Each classroom decorated their door in honor of that person. On February 16th at 9:15 a.m., each Husky Hero will be honored at an assembly. |
| Dearington Elementary School of Innovation | February 1st - Begin Daily morning announcements from SGA- Salute to African Americans
February 13th - Black History Kickoff Assembly - Dr. Elondra Napper - Author/Speaker "Every Child Needs A Champion"- 2:00 p.m. February 22nd - A Tribute to African-American Women Assembly - Students research local and nationally known African-American women and present to the student body. Also, the librarian will have books and send out a link of resources/videos that can be used to teach African-American History in your classroom - 2:00 p.m. |
| P. L. Dunbar Middle School of Innovation | Step Afrika is scheduled to come to Dunbar on February 23rd at 1:30 p.m. for a school-wide assembly and performance. Step Afrika is a non-profit professional stepping troupe based in Washington DC that travels internationally performing step routines that are steeped in both African and African-American history. They provide context to their step routines by connecting the history of step to black fraternities and sororities in America and African gumboot dancing in South Africa. They perform in many school districts around the country and simultaneously provide entertainment, knowledge of African-American history and cultural influence, and encouragement for students to attend college. |
| E. C. Glass High School | On February 2nd we will celebrate all of the African-American principals during halftime of the Glass vs. Heritage game. "Hidden Figures" activity throughout the month. |

February 6 - Guest speakers from the community spoke to students during 6 class periods February 9 - Showing the motion picture, RACE during the weekly Crossroads program. - 2:45-5:00 p.m. February 17 - "Cookies and Cocoa" Mix It Up social for faculty and students -7:05-7:30 a.m. in the Media Center February 24 - During the 5th period class, Cultural Awareness Lesson Plan obtained from Tolerance.org. February 24 - Faculty luncheon with program - 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. following early dismissal |
| Hutcherson Early Learning Center | On February 20th, our classrooms will read the book, "Whoever You Are" by Mem Fox that celebrates inclusiveness and diversity. We will do an art project with students drawing themselves. We will display this in the school - ready for our Conference Night on February 23rd. . |
| Laurel Regional School | On February 20th at 9:30 a.m., Ms. Sheron Colston will be coming for the 3rd year to present an interactive program of African drumming and dance for the students at the Laurel Regional Program. Not only does she perform, but she teaches the students dance steps and drumming techniques and everyone participates! We look forward to it every year! |

| Perrymony Elementary School | Classes will study famous African Americans during the social studies block. Mrs. Snelling, our media specialist, will share/read books and information about black history during each grade level's weekly library classes. The dates and times will vary by grade level. Daily morning announcements will feature famous African Americans and their accomplishments. |

| Sandusky Elementary School | Classes will study famous African Americans embedded in the curriculum for various subject areas. Mrs. Makepeace, media specialist, will share/read books, present powerpoints, and share information about black history and famous African Americans during each grade level's weekly library classes. The dates and times will vary. Literature from ReadWorks will be used to provide additional information on famous African Americans. Information regarding Black History Month and famous African Americans will be included as part of morning announcements daily. |
