The Lynchburg City Schools Education Foundation, Inc.’s 25th Annual Classroom Innovation Grants Awards program and reception was held in May at the E. C. Glass High School Cafeteria. Forty-two sponsored Classroom Innovation Grants have been awarded to LCS teachers for innovative programs and projects designed by teachers to enhance the educational environment and better engage their students. These projects were on display during the reception. For example, sponsors, administrators, and other guests saw how schools are working to better engage the parents of their students, how students learned research skills and the importance of environmental monitoring by assessing the water quality of the James River, and how students learned measurement, sound waves, frequency and hertz while creating their own cookie tin banjos!
The Lynchburg City Schools Education Foundation, Inc. has awarded more than 578 sponsored Classroom Innovation Grants since initiating the program more than 25 years ago. More than $715,645 in grant funding since the start of this program has allowed teachers, counselors, and administrators to implement a broad range of creative and innovative ideas into our classrooms and schools. This year the Foundation funded grants totaling $82,121.10.
