Three students painting storm drain

About 20 E. C. Glass High School art students and their teacher Kimberly Gibson-McDonald are helping keep the James River clean by transforming the school’s storm drains into works of art. Last Friday, ECG art students painted several storm drains at their school as a way of promoting the importance of keeping those drains free of trash, oil, gasoline, pet waste and other contaminants that would eventually be carried into the James River. The students used the phrase “Only Rain Down the Drain” in their designs. This project is the latest phase of ArtStorm 2019, which is sponsored by Lynchburg Water Resources and the James River Council for the Arts and Humanities. The first phases involved artists decorating numerous storm drains in downtown Lynchburg and along Fifth Street.
