This is your Board Meeting Brief for the March 21st School Board Work Session.
First, a public budget hearing was held prior to the work session to give the community an opportunity to provide comments on the 2023-24 school operating budget.
At the work session, Dr. Reid Wodicka, Deputy Superintendent of Operations and Strategic Planning, discussed a proposed replacement of the antiquated steam heating system at Dunbar Middle School. The project would be funded through the Public Private Education Facilities and Infrastructure Act, and construction is scheduled to begin in September.
The Board then approved the Superintendent’s recommendation to appoint Dr. Dani Rule as the next principal of E. C. Glass High School. Dr. Rule’s appointment comes after an extensive search process that started with robust community engagement to formulate a collective vision for the future of E. C. Glass.
Human Resources updated the Board on staffing and employee retention at LCS. Recruiting efforts to bring in new teachers are in full swing, and LCS continues to encourage employee retention by gathering data to better understand and address employee concerns.
The School Board then discussed the 2023-24 school operating budget, which includes the 15/50 salary proposal. Learn more about the 15/50 proposal by viewing the budget documents in BoardDocs. The Board voted to approve the budget, which will now be sent to the City for approval.
The next School Board Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
