FAQs
Why are these changes being made?
Adjusting the school day hours allows LCS to reconfigure bus routes in an effort to enhance transportation reliability, minimize bus delays, and reduce commute times for students. These changes will also cut down on operational costs for the school division.
Will middle school students be riding the bus with high school students?
Yes, middle and high school students will ride buses together. Combining routes like this is a common practice in surrounding areas and has proven successful. Students will have assigned seating on separate parts of the bus.
How does this impact staff workday hours?
Building administrators will determine staff workday hours. LCS employees should contact their supervisor if they have any questions.
What are the new dismissal times for student early dismissal days?
On early dismissal days, high school and middle school students will dismiss at 10:55 a.m.; Elementary Group 1 students will dismiss at 11:40 a.m.; and Elementary Group 2 students will dismiss at 12:10 p.m. For more information on student early dismissal days, visit the LCS Calendar page.
Will this new schedule lead to longer wait times for student bus riders?
Because of the updated school day hours and bus routes, we are aiming to minimize wait times and manage efficient drop-offs for all students.
If middle and high school students are going to different schools but starting at the same time, how will morning drop-off work?
Updated bus routes and pick-up times will ensure that both middle and high school students who ride the bus arrive at school on time. For students being dropped off by car, they need to arrive at the school by the start of the day.
What will the school hours be for Laurel Regional School?
There is no change for Laurel Regional School—its school hours will remain 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
