The Pioneer Rifles Marksmanship Team placed fourth out of the top 11 clubs and schools in the state during the American Legion state finals in May.
Heritage High School narrowly edged Chatham with a tie-breaker after both teams scored 1,008 out of a possible 1,200 points. The team score was their best of the season. Chatham finished with the same score, but HHS edged them out with 20 inner ten shots. Chatham had 17 inner ten shots. The fourth-place finish was a victory in itself since Chatham had previously placed second, one spot ahead of Heritage, at the regional competition earlier in the year.
Heritage missed taking third place by only 16 points.
The Franklin County Air Force JROTC won the completion with a team score of 1,070 points.
