Claire Malloy from E. C. Glass High School and Tyler Midkiff from Heritage High School were honored in May at the Lynchburg Retired Teachers Association's annual scholarship awards luncheon.
The pair each received a $2,500 scholarship. Claire will be attending Virginia Tech in the fall, and Tyler will be attending Guilford College.
The Lynchburg Retired Teachers Association has given LCS students 55 scholarships, dating back to 1986. When the program first began, the scholarship amount was $500. Since the first year of the program, students have received a total of $79,500.
State Board of Education member and former LCS teacher Darlene Mack-Edwards was the guest speaker during the presentation.
This scholarship, officially named in honor of former LCS superintendent Edward Christian Glass, is for future teachers from the Greater Lynchburg area in Virginia.
