Eleven E. C. Glass graduates were inducted into the Athletic Boosters Hall of Fame in December at a sold out banquet. In addition, two state champion basketball teams (1949 and 1953) were given special recognition. The public was invited to a reception in the Hall of Fame room at E. C. Glass on Saturday, December 7th to meet and honor the inductees and to the Hall of Fame basketball game in the Glass gym.
The following outstanding student-athletes were inducted: "Sparky" Blanks, Class of 1943; Cornell Brown, Class of 1993; Ed George, Class of 1966; Jimmy Green, Class of 1966; Jeff Morgan, Class of 1976; Martin Morris, 1961; Wistar Nelligan, Class of 1954; David Read, Class of 1979; Richard Schwartz, Class of 1973; "Deedy" Torrence, Class of 1941; and Gretchen Von Oesen, Class of 1992. Two deceased athletes (Jeff Morgan and "Deedy" Torrence) were represented by their families.
Each of the eleven represents the best of E. C. Glass student-athletes as they not only have achieved greatness in athletics, but in their many and varied achievements in life. Some of these achievements can be found in the banquet program--copies of which are available in the athletic office at E. C. Glass.
The E. C. Glass Athletic Boosters Hall of Fame was founded in 2011 by Athletic Director Chip Berry. Although the school is 142 years old, the Hall of Fame selection committee is slowly tackling the task of selecting from the hundreds of extraordinary athletes and people who have brought honor and acclaim to E. C. Glass High School. In addition, the Hall of Fame committee hopes to inspire current student-athletes with their examples of service, loyalty, dedication and team spirit.
