William Marvin Bass Elementary School is committed to the total development of each and every child through recognizing individual differences and focusing every effort on fostering a successful, productive, and responsible elementary student in preparation for future experiences.
At Bass Elementary there is a significant emphasis being placed on continuing to improve student achievement in the areas of reading, writing, math, social studies, and science. The master schedule is developed in accordance with the Lynchburg City Schools guidelines. This document provides a framework for the master schedule that is aligned with the Virginia Standards of Quality relative to the use of instructional time and allocates instructional time in a manner that supports whole and small group instruction for students. To effectively manage the instructional time per quarter teachers follow the LCS Learning Outcome Goals (LOGs) pacing guides. The guides are aligned to the Virginia Standards of Learning and the Curriculum Framework by quarter and provide links to a variety of aligned instructional resources.
Bass Elementary students also rotate on resource days through music, art, and movement education. Weekly sessions in the media center are closely correlated to current topics of learning in the regular classroom.
English Language (EL) teachers work to improve student performance of EL students in and out of the classroom. EL students may be instructed in the classroom with their classmates or in a small group setting.
