Paul Munro students and staff were treated to a special visit from children’s book illustrator Vanessa Brantley-Newton this week. Ms. Brantley-Newton shared her story about growing up with challenges, including dyslexia and a stutter, which she was able to overcome by singing. She engaged students for nearly an hour with singing, stories, and lessons about diversity. One reason she became a children’s book illustrator, she told the audience, was because she believed every child should have the opportunity to see themselves in a picture book. The visit was made possible thanks to Paul Munro library media specialist Ruth Anne McCarthy and Martha Johnson from the Maier Museum.
