This is your Board Meeting Brief for the December 6th School Board Meeting.
Chief Academic Officer Sam Coleman presented the 2023-24 High School Program of Studies for first review. There were few revisions, and the draft can be viewed in the meeting agenda on BoardDocs.
The current School Resource Officer Memorandum of Understanding between LCS and the Lynchburg Police Department was also shared with the Board. This agreement is reviewed every two years, and the community can provide feedback through the MOU survey. Once feedback is collected, the MOU will go back to the Board in the coming months.
Dr. Reid Wodicka, Deputy Superintendent of Operations and Strategic Planning, provided an update on the Capital Improvement Plan for the current fiscal year. Sections of roofs will be replaced at Dearington Elementary, Dunbar Middle, and Hutcherson Early Learning Center.
Dr. Wodicka also presented a list of planned capital improvement projects through 2028. Included are various facility updates, gymnasium additions, and school renovations. These recommendations will be presented to City Council and may change as the facilities master plan is finalized.
Also headed to City Council are recommendations for unspent funds appropriated for the prior fiscal year. The Board approved recommendations to install security vestibules in multiple schools and to provide needed structural repair at some elementary schools throughout the division.
A Public Budget Hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, December 13, at 5:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the School Administration Building. The Board Work Session will follow at 6:00 p.m.
