This is your Board Meeting Brief for the April 4th School Board Meeting.
The meeting kicked off with a special presentation to recognize this year’s recipient of the Excellence in Science Scholarship, E. C. Glass High School student Sage Khurana. This $25,000 scholarship presented by the LCS Education Foundation is awarded annually to an outstanding senior interested in entering a science-related field of study.
The Board then approved the Superintendent’s recommendation to appoint Sherry Sheppard as the Chief Human Resources Officer. Ms. Sheppard brings more than 20 years of public and private sector experience to the division, and most recently she served as the Director of Human Resources for Mecklenburg County Public Schools.
Two donations were also presented during the meeting. The Virginia Education Foundation will be donating over 23,000 books with a retail value of over $365,000. These books are for all age groups, Pre-K through high school. All book titles have been reviewed and approved by administrative staff.
Terry Suburu, through AdoptAClassroom.org, will be donating $3000 to Bass Elementary. The donation will be divided among six teachers from Bass who will each receive $500 AdoptAClassroom.org credit to be used to purchase materials for their classrooms.
