Students from both high schools have been selected to participate in the South Central Senior Regional Orchestra on November 12th at Clover Hill High School in Midlothian, Virginia. The students will perform under the baton of Anthony Maiello from George Mason University.
Heritage High School ninth grader Daniel Hong was ranked first out of 107 violins and, as a result, was named Concertmaster of the Regional Orchestra. Marie Lee, an eleventh grader at Heritage, was selected as the violin second alternate. From E. C. Glass on violin will be Sarah Catherine Straw, Rose Baker, Joseph Seo and Kiley Overstreet. Hannah Bush was selected as first alternate on violin. Mary Ellen Golcheski will play the Oboe. Greg Childress, Dudley Raine and Claire Etheridge will be on viola, and Will Light will play cello. These students, who auditioned with the best high school musicians from Charlottesville, Roanoke and Richmond, are now eligible to audition for the 2012 All-Virginia Orchestra.
