Structure
In July 2003, The Lynchburg City Schools created a department of information technology to house all aspects of administrative and instructional technology. The department is overseen by the director of information technology who reports directly to the assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction. The director is assisted by an executive team that includes the network administrator of hardware, the network administrator of software, the assistant network administrator, and the coordinator of data processing.
The department also includes five technology technicians who have installation and service duties. A technology clerk oversees the help desk and an automated employee absence reporting system powered by SubFinder. In addition, a systems and data analyst works with the iSeries and CIMS databases and files. A web designer maintains the Lynchburg City Schools’ web site as well as other duties as assigned by the director.
There are fifteen instructional technology specialists (ITS) assigned to the department of information technology who are placed in each of the elementary, middle, and high schools. Their primary duties are to assist teachers and students with technology related instruction and to troubleshoot hardware and software issues that arise at the building level.
